Who We Are
The Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and General Crime programs of Someplace Safe is operated by staff and/or volunteers who have been trained to help victims and survivors cope with a wide range of needs and responses to sexual violence. All advocacy services provided by Someplace Safe are completely free and confidential.
24 Hour Crisis Line – 800-974-3359
Our emergency crisis line is available to anyone, at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The line is staffed by individuals trained to listen, offer information, and make referrals to cooperating emergency agencies if necessary.
Advocacy Services
Advocates are trained staff and volunteers who offer help for victims, survivors, family and friends who have been affected by sexual violence. Advocates are available to:
- Assist survivors of abuse or assault at the hospital or law enforcement center
- Guide and assist in locating resources (security and protection, food, clothing, household items, personal supplies, Thrift Store Vouchers, etc.)
- Offer information on Community and Government Resources
- Provide legal Advocacy and/or Criminal Justice System Intervention (assistance with Protection Orders, Restitution, Reparations or visitation arrangements; accompaniment to or tracking of criminal process; court advocacy, etc.)
Support Groups
Support groups are offered at Someplace Safe for survivors of violent crimes. This service is a completely confidential environment in which survivors can explore, discuss, and understand the impact of trauma.
Short Term Emergency Placement Services
Short Term Emergency Placement Services (S.T.E.P.S.) may be available for victims and survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence in need. Referrals, transportation, and accompaniment to appointments may also be available.
Thrift Store
Someplace Safe’s Thrift Store provides household items, clothing and furniture for individuals utilizing our services through a voucher system. Contact your local outreach program for more information.
Volunteers are also needed at the store. Stop in or call for information!
Community Education
The goals of community education are prevention and awareness. Presentations are designed to increase awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault and other general crimes. Our speakers include trained staff and volunteers who present to clubs, schools, organizations and professionals. Informative programs are available on a variety of topics relating to domestic violence, sexual assault or other general crimes, with their focus on raising awareness and the prevention of future violence.
Volunteers and Interns
Trained volunteers and interns are directly involved in providing the services that Someplace Safe offers. All volunteers working with clients complete an initial 80 hour training program and receive on-going, on the job training. Customized internships are available with collaboration from local colleges and universities. What We Do
Someplace Safe operates Community Advocacy Programs in 10 counties including Douglas county. Our office is staffed by three advocates that are all cross trained in Domestic Violence, Sexual Assualt and General Crime Advocacy. We are trained to help individuals and their families and friends who have been affected by crime. All our services are completely free and confidential.
